2022 Mazda CX-5 Gets Fresh Look, Standard AWD

Mazda has announced that its popular CX-5 compact SUV will now come standard with i-Activ all-wheel drive in Canada. The change is effective with the 2022 model year.

In the U.S., the Mazda CX-3, CX-30 and CX-9 will also get AWD as standard.

Remember, Mazda wants to position itself as a more premium automaker and “deliver unparalleled driving pleasure for all owners.”

Mazda’s i-Activ is an on-demand system featuring multiple sensors that check road conditions 200 times every second. It constantly monitors steering angle, throttle position, exterior temperature, wiper operation, the amount of torque required to turn the front wheels and the load on the engine.

During a winter comparison of small SUVs, the performance of the Mazda CX-30 AWD really impressed our team. Torque distribution is quick and smooth for optimum traction at all times.

More Updates for 2022 Mazda CX-5

Mazda has also announced that its best-selling vehicle is getting a fresh look and some technical upgrades for 2022. The revised headlights and taillights have more rectangular LEDs, while the front grille is updated with a three-dimensional texture that replaces the outgoing mesh surface. New wheels and redesigned seats with improved support are in store, as well.

Turbocharged CX-5 models receive additional styling enhancements that help further distinguish them from non-turbo models, including gloss black exterior finishes along with red accents and stitching in the cabin.

Furthermore, Mazda engineers have made the six-speed automatic transmission more responsive for smoother acceleration, while improvements to the dampening control structure and increased frame rigidity will help suppress unpleasant vibrations and road noise, the company says. The 2022 CX-5 also introduces Mazda intelligent Drive Select (Mi-Drive), which enables the driver to select the most appropriate drive mode to optimize driving capability with one touch of a switch.
