2017 Mazda MX-5 RF Launch Edition Sells Out in Days

Mazda and its little MX-5 are on quite a roll in 2016. Earlier this year, the British-inspired roadster hit a milestone with Mazda building the one-millionth example. Right around that same time is when the RF was revealed to the world at the New York City auto show.

The Car Guide was there to cover the event. Within moments of posting our makeshift video online, thousands and thousands of viewers watched the unveiling. Mazda, as well as the automotive press, knew they were onto something.

In order to mark the arrival of the Retractable Fastback (RF) MX-5, Mazda prepared a limited run of Launch Edition models for the U.S. market. The order books opened on September 26th and within a week, half had already been spoken for. A little over a week later and all 1000 units had found owners.

The Launch Edition, like the Limited Edition NC MX-5 from 2006, features a few unique elements. In the RF’s case, look for Machine Gray Metallic paint and lovely Auburn Nappa leather seats. The lucky thousand will get a serialized Tourneau 42-mm MX-5 RF Launch Edition watch as a bonus.
