Toyota Crown Family Includes Three More Body Styles

The all-new 2023 Toyota Crown that made its global debut last Friday will hit the Canadian market later this year in the form of a bold, high-riding sedan—and a replacement for the departed Avalon in a world obsessed with SUVs and crossovers.

But as we saw during Toyota’s presentation, the Crown is not just a one-trick pony. It’s actually an entire range of models that includes three more body styles. After launching in Japan, they will eventually be sold in about “40 countries and regions” around the world, the company said, although it did not specified market availability yet.

There’s a more traditional sedan directly replacing the Crown that’s currently sold in Japan, a small crossover promising a sporty driving experience, and a more spacious SUV aimed at larger families.

The second one (pictured in red) was foreshadowed by the Crossover EV Concept that Toyota revealed last December along with 15 other future electric vehicles. We’d definitely love to have it here, with or without an electric powertrain in the mix. The two others are making their first appearance.

All four members of the Crown lineup ride on the automaker’s TNGA-K platform and massive wheels. Except for the fancy sedan that’s coming our way this fall, the windows are fully tinted and there are no shots of the interior, but we assume the layout and styling are pretty similar.
