2023 Toyota Crown to Start at $45,590 in Canada

The all-new 2023 Toyota Crown will not arrive in Canadian dealerships this fall as initially announced but rather early in 2023. The company today released pricing details for its unique, hybrid-only sedan offering and Avalon replacement.

Let’s start with the Crown XLE, which carries a base MSRP of $45,590. Standard content includes 19-inch wheels, eight-way power-adjustable and heated front seats in Softex and black woven fabric, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and the new Toyota multimedia system with a 12.3-inch touchscreen and intelligent assistant.

Under the hood, a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine is paired with front and rear electric motors to create an on-demand electronic AWD system that can deliver 236 total horsepower and achieve an NRCan-approved fuel consumption of 5.6/5.7/5.7 L/100 km (city/highway/combined). That’s pretty good for a car of this size. The continuously variable transmission deserves some of the credit, of course.

The same hybrid setup is found in the Crown Limited starting at $50,990. This model adds multibeam LED headlights, a fixed panoramic roof, leather seats that are heated and ventilated up front and heated in the rear, 11-speaker JBL Premium audio system, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and Front and Rear Parking Assist with Automatic Braking.

Both the XLE and Limited are available in Black, Oxygen White, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Heavy Metal and Supersonic Red. A unique two-tone exterior is available on the top-line Platinum model, pairing a black finish for the hood, roof and trunklid with a choice of Wind Chill Pearl, Heavy Metal, Supersonic Red or new Bronze Age colour.

As you can imagine, it’s not the only thing that separates the Crown Platinum from the rest of the lineup. For $59,990, you get a Hybrid Max system that puts out a manufacturer-estimated 340 horsepower and 400 lb-ft. of torque thanks to a turbocharged 2.4-litre engine being mated to front and rear electric motors. It can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds and average 7.8 L/100 km. Again, that rating is better than previously advertised.

The Platinum model further stands out with permanent AWD (torque distribution can go from 70-30 to 20-80 depending on driving and road conditions), a six-speed automatic transmission, adaptive variable suspension, six selectable drive modes, advanced parking assist, unique 21-inch wheels with black accents, a 360-degree surround view monitor and  digital key working on a smartphone.

All 2023 Crown models feature the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite of advanced driver assistance technologies using sensors with improved detection capability. Another thing you must know is that a bunch of connected services are also offered such as Remote Connect (3-year trial), Safety Connect (up to 10-year trial), Service Connect (up to 10-year trial) and available Drive Connect.

The last one enables the aforementioned intelligent assistant along with cloud-based navigation. After the trial period ends, a paid subscription is required.
