Genesis to Offer EV-Only Lineup By 2025

Genesis, the young Korean luxury brand launched by Hyundai in 2015, is ready to take a whole new direction with nothing but purely electric vehicles starting from 2025.

More specifically, Genesis will focus on a dual electrification strategy involving fuel cell and battery EVs, devoting itself to building next-generation technology that draws better performance and efficiency, it said.

In the longer term, Genesis aims to become a 100-percent zero-emission vehicle brand by 2030 and achieve full carbon neutrality by 2035. Expect an EV lineup consisting of eight models, with global sales reaching 400,000 units per year.

We’ve already met the first of those EVs, namely the GV60 compact crossover that was revealed a couple of weeks ago. Based on the new Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) like the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6, it will launch in North America in the second half of 2022.

Genesis promises “audacious technologies with breathtaking designs while providing sincere detail-oriented experiences.”

“Warm and exquisite care will be our differentiator,” added Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Creative Officer at Genesis.

In the video released by the company, we can see various concepts for the future vehicles including so-called “Stage Doors” (the front and rear doors open in the opposite direction without a B-pillar), swivelling seats, mood lighting, climate control inspired by the Korean “Ondol” heating, and a premium surround sound system that makes drivers and passengers feel like they’re sitting on stage with the orchestra.

Sounds great, doesn’t it?
