2023 Genesis G90 Gets New Engine, More Comfortable Interior

Following a first look in late November, the next-generation Genesis G90 full-size luxury sedan was revealed further today. We’ve already covered the exterior design, so let’s focus on the interior and what lies under the body this time around.

Remember, the new G90 will go on sale in Canada next year as a 2023 model. Pricing and trim details specific to our market will be announced closer to launch.

Stunning Interior

More than ever, Genesis claims the interior of the G90 can satisfy both customers who take the wheel themselves and those who are driven by chauffeurs. The combination of different colours and materials is quite spectacular, though maybe too fancy or garish for some. One thing’s for sure: designers took a bold approach in reimagining the brand’s flagship sedan.

The dashboard is highlighted by a pair of wide digital displays, part of a high-tech interface powered by a next-generation infotainment system. On the glass- and aluminum-trimmed centre console, the gear selector and main controller are big rotary dials mounted side by side, while a fingerprint scanner enables keyless engine start and automatically loads a driver’s personal settings.

The two panoramic sunroofs located above the first and second rows can be controlled separately. In addition, lighting installed on the left and right ends of the sunroofs is linked with other ambient lighting navigation in the vehicle. Speaking of ambience, how about the 23-speaker Bang & Olufsen surround sound system?

The rear seats feature higher-quality materials than in the outgoing model to ensure increased levels of comfort. The G90 also provides thoughtfully designed storage spaces such as an independent tray for magazines and books in the C-pillar area. By the way, recycled newspapers are used in some of the interior wood trim pieces.

To enhance driver and passenger comfort, Genesis equipped the car with so-called ergo-relaxing seats. Each seat features 10 air cells on the seatback and two air cells on the cushion, supporting four modes of body massage. What’s more, the G90 is the first Genesis to feature a fragrance system which disperses pleasing scents throughout the cabin. It offers three different aromas: The Driver’s Awakening, The Great Outdoors and My Favourite Place.

Farewell to the V8

As previously reported, Genesis is dropping the 5.0-litre V8. Instead, the 2023 G90 gets a new twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Power and torque have yet to be confirmed, but the same engine in the G80 and GV80 delivers 375 horsepower and 391 pound-feet.

A new Brake Mode called “Chauffeur” allows drivers to control braking force. It’s one of three built-in brake modes that drivers can utilize to suit their preferences and driving conditions.

Genesis says it has outfitted the G90 with new suspension technology that offers a smoother ride and better handling. It also comes with a front camera that recognizes road conditions and adjusts damping in real time. Another system elevates the nose of the car when going up or down a steep slope or driveway to prevent damage to the body.

Similar to a growing number of luxury cars, the G90 benefits from Rear Wheel Steering. What this means is that the rear wheels can turn to a maximum of four degrees in the opposite direction of the front wheels to improve low-speed agility, and to a maximum of two degrees in the same direction to increase high-speed stability.

You should also know that laminated glass on the doors combined with the brand’s most advanced noise canceling ANC-R (Active Noise Control-Road) system results in the quietest riding Genesis ever.

The new 2023 Genesis G90 looks like a much more serious threat to the German divas, but don’t forget that the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Audi A8 are freshly updated, too. A competitive price will continue to help the large Korean sedan.
