Cadillac’s Almighty Blackwing Sedans Are Now on Sale

Unveiled at the beginning of February, the new 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing luxury sports sedans are now on sale in Canada. If you’re a fan of high-performance cars, these two models pack as much value as firepower.

They are Cadillac’s direct response to the best German compacts, both on the road and the track, but the company says it’s not all about the numbers.

“The new CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing deliver like few other luxury sport sedans,” claims Mirza Grebovic, Cadillac performance variant manager. “They’ve got the numbers to stand with the world’s best, but they also transcend the stopwatch with the sort of satisfying driver experience that cannot be defined by lap times alone.”

The CT5-V Blackwing is the most powerful and fastest Cadillac production model in history with 668 horsepower, 0-100 km/h sprints in about 3.5 seconds and a top track speed of more than 320 km/h. The smaller CT4-V Blackwing is no slouch, either, producing 472 horsepower and reaching triple-digit speeds in just over four seconds.

Each model is offered with a standard six-speed manual gearbox—which is fantastic—and an available 10-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission.

“For nearly two decades, enthusiasts have told us how important it is to have the control of a manual gearbox in their performance sedan,” Grebovic adds. “The ability to choose the driving experience they want is a luxury in and of itself, allowing them to feel more connected with the vehicle.”

Furthermore, after doing tests with AWD prototypes that didn’t prove to be any faster on the track, Cadillac decided to stick with a RWD configuration. The system uses an enhanced electronic limited-slip rear differential that’s optimized for each driving mode and each Performance Traction Management setting.

A carbon fibre aero package is available to maximize handling and track performance, while GM’s next-generation Magnetic Ride Control suspension—as previously featured on the new Corvette and full-size SUVs—can adjust damping characteristics several times per second to maximize grip and ride quality based on road conditions.

Other than that, we should point out interior amenities like an eight-inch colour touchscreen in the CT4-V Blackwing and 10-inch touchscreen in the CT5-V Blackwing, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, wireless charging, AKG premium audio systems with 15 or 16 speakers and an available second-generation performance data recorder. The CT5-V Blackwing stands out with surround vision and head-up display, plus it can be specified with carbon fibre-accented racing seats.

As for pricing, prepare to pay at least $67,198 for a CT4-V Blackwing or $89,898 for a CT5-V Blackwing including destination and delivery. Just so you know, the less powerful BMW M2 and M3 start at $72,000 and $84,300, respectively. You’d better hurry, though, because Canadian availability is extremely limited.
