2022 BMW i4 Electric Sedan to Start Under $55,000 in Canada

BMW Canada is now accepting pre-orders for its all-new compact electric sedan, the 2022 BMW i4.

This car boasts sportier styling and promises a more spirited driving experience than the small i3 hatchback, whose production ends this month. It will directly challenge the popular Tesla Model 3 as well as the Polestar 2.

The BMW i4 is initially available in two trim levels. The standard i4 eDrive40, starting at $54,990 plus destination, boasts a single, rear-drive electric motor producing 335 horsepower and an estimated 475 kilometres of range.

Meanwhile, the high-performance i4 M50—the first-ever electric vehicle developed by BMW’s M division—retails from $72,990. It has dual motors and xDrive all-wheel drive. Output is much higher at 536 horsepower. However, the estimated range drops to 385 kilometres.

Both versions share an 83.9-kWh battery.

Provincial incentives available in British Columbia, Quebec, Nova Scotia, Yukon and the Northwest Territories will immediately apply, but not the federal rebate of up to $5,000 since Ottawa has set a price limit at $45,000 for vehicles with six seats or less.

The first deliveries of the 2022 BMW i4 are scheduled for the first quarter of next year.
