This Nissan Skyline GT-R Sold for Nearly $400,000 Looks Dreamy
Purple-coloured cars seldom get our pulse racing, but this 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R is definitely one of them.
It’s one of 282 R34 V-Spec examples finished in Midnight Purple II that were imported from Japan to the U.S., and it was recently sold on Bring a Trailer for a cool $315,000 USD, or approximately $387,000 CAD.

Why such a hefty sum? Well, the R34 Skyline GT-R enjoys cult-like status thanks to its appearances in many video games and at custom car shows, not to mention its popularity among street racers around the globe. This particular unit is impeccably finished and maintained, as well. Just look at the pictures.
Among other things, the factory 18-inch wheels were refinished and are wrapped in new 255/40 Bridgestone Potenza S001 tires. The car features HICAS all-wheel steering and was fitted with Öhlins coilovers during its latest time at the shop. Stopping power is provided by gold Brembo brake calipers paired with aftermarket slotted rotors.
Popping the hood reveals a twin-turbocharged 2.6-litre RB26DETT inline-six engine that benefited from meticulous attention and a number of replacement parts. It was factory rated at 276 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Power is delivered to all four wheels via a Getrag six-speed manual transmission and an ATTESA all-wheel-drive system featuring an electronically controlled, limited-slip rear differential.
The right-hand-drive cabin is trimmed in grey and black, with a pair of racing seats being the main highlight. You might be surprised to see the speedometer in the aluminum-trimmed instrument cluster only goes to 180 km/h, but the tachometer has a redline at 8,000 rpm.
The digital odometer reads just short of 64,000 kilometres. Now that the car is in the U.S. and under the NHTSA Show or Display exemption, it is limited to 2,500 miles (4,000 km) per year and must be made available for inspection until it is not less than 25 years old.
We don’t know what the new owner will do with it, but according to the posts on Bring a Trailer he has a couple more R34s in his collection. Colour us jealous.
