86,000 Volkswagen, Audi Cars Recalled in Canada Due to Fire Risk

Approximately 80,000 Volkswagen and Audi cars in Canada have been hit with a recall due to a fire risk involving the fuel tank.

More specifically, the recall is due to a faulty suction jet pump seal inside the fuel tank, which could leak and cause a fire, the automaker explained in a statement.

Affected models are limited to certain FWD units of the 2015-2019 Audi A3 and 2019-2020 Volkswagen Jetta GLI sedans as well as the 2015-2019 Volkswagen Golf Sportwagen.

Volkswagen believes that only 1 percent of the recall population actually has this problem. It is unaware of any related fire, accident or injury so far.

Customers will be notified when replacement parts are made available and will need to take their car to a Volkswagen or Audi dealer to have the repairs performed at no cost.

A similar recall affects more than 261,000 units in the U.S.
