2024 Jeep Wrangler Gets Fresh Look, New Screen, More Off-Road Capability

A refreshed and improved 2024 Jeep Wrangler today made its debut at the New York Auto Show, carrying over the new grille design introduced on the 2023 Wrangler 20th Anniversary.

The cosmetic changes to the iconic Wrangler extend to the wheels, while the interior gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Jeep engineers have also raised the bar with an all-new Dana 44 HD full-float solid rear axle on Rubicon models.

This axle accommodates not only the stock 35-inch tires offered by Jeep, but also 40-inch aftermarket tires. What’s more, it increases maximum towing to 5,000 lbs. A factory-installed Warn winch with a capacity of 8,000 lbs is available on the Wrangler Rubicon.

“The Jeep Wrangler is the archetypal adventure hero, embodying the spirit and the soul of the Jeep brand,” said Christian Meunier, Jeep brand CEO. “Since its introduction, we have sold almost 5 million Wranglers around the world, setting new levels of 4x4 capability with each new generation. Today, we are raising the bar once again by combining the most capable Wrangler to date, with more technology, comfort and safety features. This is a no-compromise combination enhanced by the freedom to choose from four different powertrains, including our electrified 4xe, which is the best-selling PHEV in America.”

Plenty of Selection

The 2024 Jeep Wrangler comes in six trim levels including Sport, Willys, Sahara, High Altitude, Rubicon and Rubicon 392. There are also four engines to choose from, starting with a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder (270 hp, 295 lb-ft. of torque) and a 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 (285 hp, 260 lb-ft.). The 4xe plug-in hybrid system is back (375 hp, 470 lb-ft.), and so is the 6.4-litre HEMI V8 (470 hp, 470 lb-ft.).

The Wrangler 4xe and Rubicon 392 are equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission exclusively, while all the other models can be specified with a six-speed manual transmission, as well.

Dana 44

The new Dana 44 HD full-float rear axle on Wrangler Rubicon models consists of a wheel hub assembly that is separate from the axle shaft, with a spindle bolted to the axle tube that supports the wheel hub via a pair of wheel bearings.

As Jeep explained, the axle shaft is subjected only to torsional loads, with its sole function being to transmit power to the wheel hub. This stronger, more robust full-float construction enables a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 lbs on Rubicon 2.0-litre and 3.6-litre automatic models.

Another notable addition is the Wrangler 4xe’s Power Box featuring four 120V outlets with 30 amps of total output, allowing the battery pack to power external devices such as phones and tablets.

New 12.3-Inch Display

As mentioned up top, a highlight inside the 2024 Jeep Wrangler is the new 12.3-inch centre touchscreen powered by Uconnect 5 (five times faster than the previous operating system). It comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, simultaneous connectivity for two Bluetooth-enabled phones, plus over-the-air updates.

By the end of 2025, the entire Jeep lineup in North America will be electrified. By 2030, the company expects 50 percent of its sales in the U.S. (and likely Canada, too) to be fully electric vehicles.
