Jeep Debuts Two New 4xe Models With a Nod to the Past

Jeep kicked off the 2022 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit today with the introduction of two new 4xe plug-in hybrid models that pay tribute to some of the brand’s icons.

Remember, back in 1992, the original Grand Cherokee made a smashing debut by crashing through the glass at Cobo Hall. Three decades later and with more than 7 million units sold, Jeep is back with a Grand Cherokee 4xe 30th Anniversary edition.

The hybrid system is the same, unsurprisingly, delivering 375 horsepower, 470 pound-feet of torque, max towing of 6,000 pounds and up to 42 kilometres of pure electric range.

However, the exterior stands out with a unique blacked-out appearance, a modified front fascia, signature blue tow hooks, dual exhaust, new 20-inch black wheels, special-edition badging and body-coloured rear fascia, lower mouldings, sill claddings and wheel flares.

Inside, Jeep appointed this special edition of the Grand Cherokee 4xe with black Capri leather seats, ventilated front seats, a wireless charging pad, dual-pane sunroof, nine-speaker Alpine audio system and Uconnect 5 with a 10.1-inch touchscreen.

Details about pricing and ordering for the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe 30th Anniversary edition will be announced later this year, with deliveries starting by early 2023.

The Willys is Electrified

Fans of the Jeep Wrangler looking for the ultimate combination of capability and electrification with a vintage twist can now have it in the new 2023 Wrangler Willys 4xe, which is also on display at the NAIAS.

This model is based on the Wrangler 4xe and packs 375 horsepower along with 470 pound-feet of torque, a 17kWh battery providing an electric range of up to 35 kilometres, Selec-Trac 4WD with heavy-duty Dana 44 axles and mud-terrain tires on 17-inch black-painted wheels.

A special ‘Willys’ decal on the hood, trimmed in the 4xe’s signature Electric Blue, and an ‘Electric 4-Wheel Drive’ decal on the swing gate signify that this Willys is a 4xe plug-in hybrid. Electric Blue is also used to accent the front and rear Willys tow hooks, the Jeep badge and the Trail Rated badge.

Other features thrown into the mix here include a black grille, standard LED headlamps and fog lamps, nine-speaker Alpine premium audio and all-weather floor mats.

When it comes to the 2023 Jeep Wrangler Willys 4xe, ordering opens this month with deliveries scheduled to begin before the end of the year. Pricing has yet to be announced.
