Polestar 3 Breaks Single Charge Range Record
The Polestar 3 broke the Guinness World Record for the longest distance travelled by an electric SUV on a single charge. Polestar points out that the SUV was not modified and that the entire journey was completed on public roads. To achieve this, the manufacturer chose a long-range, rear-wheel-drive model, the most favourable version for attempting this type of record.
With 935.44 kilometres covered in 22 hours and 57 minutes before running out of power, the vehicle set a new official record validated by the Guinness Book of World Records. The Polestar 3 was driven on roads in the United Kingdom, with 20-inch wheels and Michelin Sport 4 EV tires. In Europe, this version of the Polestar 3 has a theoretical range of 706 kilometres according to the WLTP standard, which is more optimistic than the EPA standard we use in North America.

This is an impressive feat for a sport utility vehicle, falling short only to the highly aerodynamic Lucid Air sedan, which owns the Guinness record in its category. Polestar does not specify how the vehicle was driven, the type of roads used, or if any specific protocol was followed. But it is likely that the route chosen was favourable for preserving and recuperating power. At the end of the test, the Polestar 3 was showing an average consumption of only 12.1 kWh/100 km, which is very impressive even with a very conservative right foot.
For comparison, a Canadian model with the same battery, but equipped with twin-motor all-wheel drive consumes an average of 23.8 kWh/1000 km according to the EPA. For our part, we obtained a figure ranging between 19 and 20 kWh/100 km in summer during our own road test. Another interesting fact: Polestar points out that when the display showed 0% range remaining, the driver was still able to travel an additional 12.8 kilometres. This result is consistent with the winter range test organized by CAA Quebec, in which we participated in January 2025.
