New Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Teased Ahead of Summer Debut

Following the Stingray, Z06 and E-Ray, a fourth model will join the Corvette lineup in the next few months. In a mysterious teaser released this week, Chevrolet confirmed that a new Corvette ZR1 will debut in mid-2024.

The short video, using the tagline “The unthinkable is coming this summer,” doesn’t reveal much other than part of the car’s silhouette and the roaring of a gasoline engine. Clearly this is not the fully electric Corvette that we’ve been promised, but what is so unthinkable about it?

Based on multiple reports, this new ZR1 will feature a twin-turbocharged V8 and deliver anywhere between 800-900 horsepower, directly challenging insane muscle cars like the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD as well as Europe’s finest exotic cars.

Will it outperform the gas-electric E-Ray (pictured below), which is the fastest production Corvette of all time? For that to happen, the ZR1 needs to sprint from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in less than 2.5 seconds and achieve the quarter mile in under 10.5 seconds.

We also expect specific tuning for the eight-speed dual-clutch transmission and Magnetic Ride Control suspension, more advanced aerodynamics, plus the biggest and most powerful brakes in Corvette history.

A heavily camouflaged prototype was spotted doing test laps on Germany’s Nürburgring race track last fall, and with a debut scheduled for this summer, we suspect that development will be completed soon. Keep in touch for more Corvette news.
