2024 Nissan Frontier Hardbody Launches in Canada Along With More Models

For a while, we feared that the 2024 Nissan Frontier was going to come down to just a single trim level, PRO-4X, significantly increasing the base price. Well, we’re happy to report that Nissan Canada will actually offer three more options, including the retro-styled Hardbody Edition that was announced in the U.S. last fall.

Let’s be honest, Nissan needs a cool product such as this one in a segment that’s full of compelling alternatives. A direct nod to the company’s small pickup from the 1980s that was dubbed Hardbody due to its tough, double-walled bed design, the modern edition features heritage-styled, 17-inch alloy wheels that closely replicate the look of those on the original truck, shod in all-terrain tires. An aluminum skid plate, black over-fenders, a black side rail and a bed-mounted sport bar also contribute to the retro-rugged look.

Other highlights include black-painted bumpers, mirrors, door handles and grille. Completing the package, the Hardbody Edition wears black graphics in throwback style, with a large "4x4" logo on the front doors and a tailgate graphic that features a cut-out "Nissan" logo, replacing the typical Nissan tailgate emblem.

Content is based on the Frontier SV, which returns for 2024. Dual tow hooks, a heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel, cloth seats with 8-way power adjustments for the driver and an 8-inch touchscreen are part of the package.

Slotting between the Hardbody Edition and top-line PRO-4X is the new Frontier SL, which provides additional comfort and convenience. Replacing the outgoing SV Premium Package, it bundles sought-after features such as full LED lighting, leather-appointed seats, a 10-speaker Fender audio system and auto-dimming rear-view mirror, among other things.

All 2024 Nissan Frontier models come standard with a 310-horsepower, 3.8-litre V6 engine paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission and 4WD system. Max towing capacity is rated at 6,260 lbs, which is well below average for a midsize pickup.

With regard to technology, available NissanConnect Services (standard on PRO-4X) now includes a three-year Premium package trial, up from a six-month trial previously. Drivers get remote door lock/unlock, remote engine start/stop, vehicle health reports and emergency calling.

The 2024 Nissan Frontier is on sale now starting at $49,160 (freight and PDI included). The Hardbody Edition is priced from $52,160.
