Ford Mustang GT California Special Returns to Cure Winter Blues

How’s this for good news on a dark November day. One week before its official debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Ford today announced the return of the California Special package for the 2024 Mustang.

A new signature colour called Rave Blue accentuates a number of details on the car, including the nostril intakes (which flank a new horizontal-slat grille complete with low gloss black strakes), the spokes of the 19-inch alloy wheels (two designs available), as well as the “GT” and “5.0” badges on the trunk lid and front fenders, respectively.

“Rave Blue is such a distinct and exciting colour, it really does make the California Special stand out not only from other Mustang models, but from previous California Special models,” Mustang Brand Manager Joe Bellino said.

The headlights are surrounded by black bezels, while unique graphics in Medium Light Rave Blue and High- and Low-Gloss Black appear on the lower body sides.

Blue accents are prominent throughout the interior, too. In particular, perforated Navy Pier upholstery and Ebony Black leather covers the seats. Two-tone contrast stitching with Raptor Blue and Metal Grey threads that extend to the dashboard and doors is another highlight. The same stitching is also available for the centre console and steering wheel, the latter also dressed in Navy Pier and Ebony Black.

A “California Special” badge on the dashboard and “GT/CS” floor mats round out the interior changes.

In Canada, the California Special package adds $2,595 to the price of a Mustang GT Premium (which starts at $54,400 and packs 480 horsepower). It’s available in Coupe and Convertible body styles with either the six-speed manual gearbox or the optional 10-speed automatic transmission. Order banks open today.
