2024 Mazda CX-5 Adds Special Edition, Fuel-Saving Tech and More

Mazda has a few changes in store for the 2024 iteration of the CX-5, which remains the Japanese brand’s most popular model by a long shot despite last year’s introduction of the all-new, more refined (and fairly more expensive) CX-50.

Customers now have eight models to choose from including the new-for-2024 Suna Edition starting at $44,200. It comes with gloss black exterior accents (wheels, mirror caps, front grille) and a Zircon Sand Metallic paint colour. Inside, look for terracotta upholstery with black suede inserts, combined with terracotta stitching and gunmetal accents. Super classy.

The CX-5 Suna Edition relies on Mazda’s turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine that delivers 256 horsepower and 320 lb-ft. of torque with premium gasoline or 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft. with regular gas.

Speaking of engines, the naturally aspirated 2.5-litre unit included as standard (187 horsepower, 185 lb-ft. of torque) is upgraded for 2024 with i-Stop technology, which improves NRCan fuel economy estimates to 8.5 L/100 km combined, a 0.5 L/100 km improvement from 2023. Once again, the only transmission available is a six-speed automatic paired with all-wheel drive on all CX-5 models.

Another pleasant change is touchscreen capability when the 10.25-inch centre display is connected to Apple CarPlay or Android Auto—as is the case in the CX-50 and CX-90. That goes for even the base GX model starting at $32,250 (up $1,000 from last year). GT and higher grades offer wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

The Kuro Edition is back for 2024, by the way. This one stands out with black exterior flourishes and 19-inch wheels. It can now be specified in Rhodium White Metallic for a striking contrast. Interior options include a choice between black or Garnet Red leather.

Other than that, there are only minor equipment revisions to report, such as new silver metallic 19-inch wheels on the CX-5 GT. Here is a full pricing breakdown:
