Audi Confirms No New Combustion Models Beyond 2026

Audi has confirmed its electrification strategy which includes no more new combustion-powered models beyond 2026 and a full EV lineup by 2033.

The announcement was made by Audi boss Markus Duesmann in a speech at a Climate Neutrality Foundation conference. There’s a big caveat, mind you: China is not part of the plan.

Duesmann previously said that the final combustion-engined Audi models will be "the best of that type we ever make." Their identity is not yet known, but the current-generation Q5 will be due for a replacement at around that time. It’s an extremely popular vehicle, so the company will likely want to keep attracting as many customers as possible.

Audi currently has the e-tron crossover in SUV and Sportback configurations plus the e-tron GT sports sedan (pictured above). Soon the lineup will expand to include the Q4 e-tron (SUV and Sportback), then a pair of midsize models will follow: the A6 e-tron sedan and Q6 e-tron SUV. Look for an A4 e-tron, as well.

Audi plans to launch 20 new electric models globally by 2025.
