What if the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Came Back Like This?

A lot of compact sports car enthusiasts miss the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution since the tenth and final generation bowed out a little over five years ago. In fact, the Japanese automaker has completely abandoned the Lancer to focus on SUVs and crossovers.

Rumours of the Evo’s resurrection have been greatly exaggerated and are more wishful thinking than anything (Mitsubishi insists it has moved on), but we can still have fun using our imagination.

That’s what a design artist by the name of Rain Prisk did as he shared his vision of a reborn Lancer Evolution via his Facebook page.

As you can see, this modern interpretation stays true to the late Evo with a gaping front grille and massive rear wing spoiler. It also retains a pair of hood intakes and side vents behind the front wheels, although in a reduced size.

Meanwhile, the latest evolution (pun intended) of Mitsubishi’s “Dynamic Shield” design language is nicely applied to the car, at least when it comes to the thin headlights and large C-shaped chrome accents underneath. Those are very reminiscent of the new 2022 Outlander and Eclipse Cross.

We also like the various black trim elements including the oversized wheels, mirror caps and aero kit down low. The thick creases on the doors are not bad, either.

What do you think? Do you prefer the Honda Civic Type R or the upcoming 2022 Volkswagen Golf R? And don’t forget the future Subaru WRX STI, which promises to be wild and ultra-powerful.
