Incredible BMW M1 Owned by Paul Walker Fetches $640,000

The late Paul Walker, star of the Fast and Furious movie franchise, was an avid car enthusiast and collector, as you know. In fact, we’ve previously shown you a few of his remarkable possessions.

For a brief period of time, Walker and his friend Roger Rodas (the same guy who died next to him in that fatal November 2013 car crash) owned a rare 1980 BMW M1 through their company, AE Performance. It was recently sold via Bring a Trailer for half a million U.S. dollars, or about $640,000 CAD.

Why is it so valuable? First of all, the M1 was a mid-engine supercar that basically proved to be a road-legal race car. In addition to its famous former owner, this particular model stands out as one of just 10 or so units that were modified by German BMW dealer AHG.

As the pictures clearly illustrate, Walker’s unique M1 was fitted with a custom body kit that includes a box-shaped lower front bumper and a large black spoiler in the rear. Three wide stripes representing the colours of BMW’s M division start from the front left fender, go over the roof and come down to the rear right fender. Three-piece BBS wheels in a silver finish complete the exterior.

AHG also worked on the 3.4-litre six-cylinder engine, increasing output from 277 hp to 350 hp, as well as the exhaust system. As a result, the car is not eligible for registration in California since it doesn’t meet emissions standards.

Another incredible fact is that the odometer reads just 6,800 km. The interior does show some signs of wear, however, including the leather which replaces the original fabric.

In January of last year, 21 vehicles from Paul Walker’s collection, including several 1995 BMW M3 Lightweight models, were sold for nearly $3 million at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction in Arizona.
