Two More Acura Type S Models are Coming, Leaked Document Says

The all-new 2021 Acura TLX unveiled last week marks the return of the high-performance Type S designation in the Acura lineup, but the company wants a lot more than just this one sports sedan.

Other Type S models will debut in the coming years and we now know a bit more about them thanks to a confidential presentation intended for Acura dealers only that somehow leaked online.

In the nearly one-hour long video posted on the Acurazine forum, there’s a detailed plan to increase the brand’s annual sales in the U.S. to 200,000 units by 2022. Performance will be key to achieving this number.

In addition to the TLX Type S, the presentation mentions an MDX Type S—most likely with the next generation of the luxury midsize SUV. It’s safe to assume the engine would be the same turbocharged 3.0-litre V6, whose power and torque ratings have yet to be announced.

The Type S moniker also appears right above a “New Compact Sedan,” which would logically be the successor to the current ILX. Now, Acura is not referring to an “ILX Type S” specifically, so does that mean its entry-level car will get a new name? Will we see the return of the Integra or RSX? Don’t rule it out. Some media outlets are even speculating that this new model could share its engine with the future Honda Civic Type R.

As for the rest of the lineup, the NSX supercar will soldier on and the RDX compact SUV will remain the bestseller, according to Acura’s projections. It looks like there won’t be a Type S variant of the latter, however.

Of course, a lot of things can change. Keep following The Car Guide for the latest developments at Acura.
