Canadian Tire Builds Ice Truck That Runs
Canadian Tire built a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck using 11,000 lbs of ice. The project was done to demonstrate the toughness of its Eliminator battery and also to try to set the Guinness World Record for distance driven in a vehicle made out of ice.
They hired a company called Iceculture, a Hensall, Ontario-based ice sculpting firm to build the ice truck on top of a rigid chassis. The truck features working LED lights, power steering and a gasoline motor.
You may have caught the truck on television because the company made a commercial which features the ice truck.
In the end, they drove 1.6km at 20km/h through the city of Hensall.
On their website, you can see videos of the construction process and also a time-lapse sequence where the truck melts to the ground completely. I guess that means we won’t be seeing it on the roads!
