BMW i5 in the Works
BMW has told the British publication What Car? that a larger sibling to the popular new i3 electric vehicle is already in the planning stage.
The form of this model has yet to be determined but it’s clear that the success of the electric Tesla Model S has demonstrated a market for larger, more mainstream electric cars. BMW has yet to determine whether the i5 will be a sedan similar to the 5-Series or possibly even a SUV like the X3 or X5.

The i3 has been aimed at urban customers and it follows that the i5 will be as well. The popularity of SUVs among suburbanites might favor the i5 going in that direction.
Whichever form the i5 settles on, it will follow the theme of the i brand, namely rear-wheel drive and making use of carbonfibre-reinforced plastic materials.
