Spotlight on the 2014 BMW i3: Testing it This Week

This week, we’re getting our first chance to test drive the 2014 BMW i3, the brand’s small, 100% electric, urban car. It’s the first in the Bavarian automaker’s electric line – called “i” – which will eventually include more models.

With a bold and ultra-modern design, the 2014 BMW i3 is powered by a 22 kWh pack of lithium-ion batteries that drive the electric motor, which in turn delivers 170 horsepower and 184 lbs.-ft. of torque. This drivetrain can bring the vehicle from 0-100 km/h in about seven seconds. According to the manufacturer, range is somewhere between 130 and 160 kilometres, though the different driving modes can help you extended it to a certain degree. Starting price? Nearly CAD $45,000.

Check our test drive report.

In the meantime, you can enjoy the video from its official launch held simultaneously in New York, London and Beijing.
