Quebec GT Challenge

There are many racing series in Quebec but none fit the bill for your average car enthusiast quite like the Quebec GT Challenge.

The series uses a unique performance handicap format that gives a chance to the less powerful cars to be competitive on an overall basis. Following the qualifying results, drivers of the fastest cars are subject to a mandatory pit stop during the race to reduce the gap with the slower cars. The standing start, which is also used in Formula One, linked with an inverted starting grid and delayed start ensures nonstop action on the track. With a single podium and a single class (rather than the usual one podium per class) it makes the race much easier to follow. Whoever is in the lead is winning the race.

We had the chance to see the series first hand during the race at Calabogie, near Ottawa this past Saturday.

The Quebec GT Challenge is promoted by CHAG Autosport Académie, a racing academy offering licensing course programs in order to begin race competition. They also have a complete workshop preparing race cars, several lines of specialized products, arrive & drive race car rental programs offering support at the races and professional coaching.
