Alors que Scout Motors, filiale de Volkswagen, vient tout juste de dévoiler son premier VUS électrique, il semblait judicieux de revenir sur l’histoire du modèle qui l’a inspiré : l’International Harvester Scout.
Commercialisé au millésime 1961, il peut être considéré comme le précurseur des VUS en faisant sortir les 4 roues motrices d’une utilisation purement utilitaire. C’est lui qui servira d’inspiration aux Ford Bronco (1966) et Chevrolet Blazer (1969). Une deuxième génération sera introduite en avril 1971. Le Scout disparaîtra en octobre 1980 qu’International Harvester travaillait au développement d’une troisième génération.
