Don’t look now, but Kia is now making a high-end model. This past summer, Kia unveiled the Cadenza, a sedan featuring generous proportions and very modern lines. Only one engine is offered, a 293-hp 3.3L V6 with front-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission. And the Cadenza’s rivals aren’t exactly tomato cans: Buick Lacrosse, Lexus ES, Nissan Maxima, Toyota Avalon and its cousin, the Hyundai Genesis.

Despite the fact Kia has been on a hot streak, capped by topping all premium brands in the J.D.Power Initial Quality survey, the Cadenza has not drawn much attention. That may change with this second generation model. Designed in California, this is an all new vehicle, not just a refresh.
