The Most Dependable Makes and Models in 2022 According to J.D. Power
J.D. Power has published its latest annual Vehicle Dependability Study, and what do you know? Korean brands earn three of the top four spots. How times have changed.
Kia leads the entire industry with 145 owner-reported problems per 100 vehicles. It is followed by Buick (147), Hyundai (148), Genesis (155), Toyota (158), Lexus (159), Porsche (162), Dodge (166), Cadillac (168) and Chevrolet (171). Overall, mass-market brands (190) fare better than luxury brands (204).

Which ones are the least dependable? Once again, Land Rover (284) is at the bottom of the ranking, below Ram (266), Volvo (256), Alfa Romeo (245) and Acura (244), whose parent company Honda (230) is not much better. Tesla is not included due to a small sample size.
J.D. Power’s 2022 study is based on responses from 29,487 original owners of 2019 model-year vehicles after three years of ownership. It covers more than 180 specific problems grouped into nine major vehicle categories: climate, driving assistance, driving experience, exterior, features/controls/displays, infotainment, interior, powertrain, and seats. Input from owners is used to rank brands and determine the most dependable models.
