Boomerang Tracking Recovers its 7,000th stolen vehicle while over was camping in the woods

Milestone Recovery Brings Total Value Of Recovered Assets To $350 Million

Boomerang Tracking Inc., Canada’s leader in stolen vehicle recovery, is proud to announce the recovery of its 7,000th stolen vehicle equipped with a Boomerang recovery device. This milestone recovery brings the total value of assets recovered by Boomerang to approximately $350 million, highlighting the company’s impact on helping to reduce the serious issue of vehicle theft in Canada by aiding law enforcement to recover stolen vehicles and get dangerous criminals off the streets.

The recovery of the 7,000th vehicle, a 1998 Acura Integra, demonstrates that the most popular theft targets are commonly used vehicles.

Peter Lambrinakos, Commander of the Service de police de la Ville de Montreal, notes that he observed, particularly over the past two years, that thieves are targeting older vehicles. "Some thefts are committed by joyriders, who are not really specialized in vehicle theft, are looking for a car that is easy to steal and can be used to commit other crimes. Other, more professional thieves are working for organized auto theft rings who are targeting these type of vehicles to sell for parts on the black market," concluded Commander Lambrinakos.

Details of the 7,000th recovery

As the owner of the 1998 Acura Integra, Mr. Carlos Esposito, was sleeping in his tent while camping in Ontario, Boomerang Security Central awoke him at 5:30 a.m. because they had received an alarm from the automatic theft notification of Mr. Espisito’s Boomerang device. He confirmed that the vehicle should be in front of his residence and if it was moving to track it immediately. In less than one hour, the Boomerang tracking team had recovered the vehicle, without any damage, and advised local law enforcement who proceeded with the arrest of four thieves at the scene.

This was Mr. Esposito’s first vehicle theft experience.  He has been a Boomerang client for the past eight years and chose to protect his Integra with a Boomerang device for the peace of mind it provided. “I was half asleep [when I received the theft notification call] and it was like a dream, but I felt safe. I had confidence in Boomerang and I knew that their recovery team would take care of it in no time. I had nothing to worry about,” commented Mr. Esposito. “The Acura was my first car and is like my baby. I would always watch over it. Since I installed a Boomerang on it, it just makes me sleep better at night, I feel comfortable and have no worries,” concluded Mr. Esposito.

The Need for Protection

Mr. Esposito’s neighbor had his car stolen 3 times and was never recovered in any of those cases. “While it is true that most insurance policies will cover a vehicle loss, drivers could expect to pay at least $2,500 in out of pocket expenses from a theft in lost vehicle contents, loss of use of vehicle, loss of a down payment, potential rental car costs and increases in insurance premiums on a replacement vehicle”, commented Michael Lendick, Director of Boomerang Tracking Security Central. “Every driver has a part to play in stopping vehicle theft: it is essential that consumers take a proactive role in protecting themselves. We believe that the more layers of protection a driver uses, the safer their vehicle will be.”
