Porsche Contemplating Cayenne Diesel?

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear “Porsche?” If you answered “diesel,” you might be an idiot. Because at no point in the firm’s long and storied past has the iconic brand from Stuttgart brought a diesel-powered vehicle into this hemisphere. But then again, it wasn’t until 2002 that one would have put the terms “SUV” and “Porsche” in the same sentence, either.

And it would appear that the good Porsche name may soon find itself joined with the product of a fellow German; Rudolf Diesel. But those fearing the worst for their Porsche sports car need not fear, for it is only the Cayenne that looks to be making the jump to burning oil. Already available in Europe, Porsche Cars North America is currently looking into the viability of a diesel Cayenne derivative for our less diesel-friendly market, with the closest possible release date being at least two years away.
