IIHS Hands Out Final Top Safety Pick Awards for 2025
The U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has now finalized its list of the safest vehicles for 2025, which includes both 2025 models and some 2026 models.
Thirteen additional vehicles have received the highest distinction, namely a Top Safety Pick+ award, bringing the total to 66. These include the Audi A6 Sportback e-tron, Audi Q5, Audi Q5 Sportback, Genesis G80, Honda Passport (new generation), Infiniti QX60, Kia Sorento, Lexus NX, Subaru Forester, Tesla Cybertruck, Volkswagen Atlas, Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport and Volvo EX90. Incidentally, the EX90 will no longer be sold in Canada due to tariffs on U.S.-built vehicles that don’t comply with CUSMA rules.

Meanwhile, three more vehicles earn the lower-tier Top Safety Pick award including the Acura ADX, Hyundai Palisade (new generation) and Tesla Model 3. They are part of a group of 18.

In order to qualify for either award, vehicles need good ratings in the small overlap front and side tests, an acceptable or good rating in the pedestrian front crash prevention evaluation and acceptable- or good-rated headlights across all trim levels.
An acceptable rating in the moderate overlap front test is enough to qualify for a Top Safety Pick award, but a good rating is required for the Top Safety Pick+ award.

In some cases, the modifications needed to become eligible were made midway through the model year. For those vehicles, the award only applies to units built after a specific date, as listed on the IIHS website. Examples include the 2025 Audi Q5 manufactured after July and the 2026 Kia Sorento manufactured after September.
