New Koenigsegg Sadair’s Spear is a Track-Focused Hypercar

Swedish manufacturer Koenigsegg is pushing the limits once again. The all-new Sadair's Spear unveiled today out-performs the record-breaking Jesko Attack as a track-focused yet road-legal hypercar.

The name actually refers to the horse that Jesko von Koenigsegg, the father of company CEO Christian von Koenigsegg, rode his final race with in 1976.

With new calibration and improved cooling, the twin-turbo 5.0-litre V8 boosts power to 1,300 hp (+20) on regular gasoline and 1,625 hp (+25) on ethanol-based E85 fuel. All this is transmitted to the rear axle by Koenigsegg's flywheel-free sequential gearbox, called “Light Speed Transmission,” which is controlled by steering-wheel-mounted paddles. There’s no mention of 0-100 km/h times, but top speed is said to be 360 km/h.

Meanwhile, the car's weight has been reduced by 35 kg for a total of 1,385 kg, enabling it to beat the power-to-weight ratio of even the Koenigsegg One:1. The suspension employs lighter springs and new Triplex shock absorbers developed in-house, while the carbon-ceramic brakes rely on thicker and stronger pads.

Of course, aerodynamics is a big part of any hypercar’s prowess. The main upgrade here comes in the form of a new dual-blade active rear spoiler which increases downforce up to 1,765 kg together with the underbody strakes and wheel arch louvers.

By the way, each of the four carbon-fibre wheels has a unique design, and the tires around them are wider. The rear end has been slightly extended, while the various air intakes and openings have been redesigned to optimize cooling.

As for the cabin, which is also crafted with a lighter weight in mind, the centre console has been redesigned, and the carbon fibre seats are fitted with three-point belts as standard or six-point harnesses as an option.

“Sadair’s Spear represents a natural progression for Koenigsegg, an impeccable balance of raw power, refined aerodynamics and extraordinary road presence,” Christian von Koenigsegg said. “This car is destined to set records. Achieving such track dominance in a fully road-legal vehicle is nothing short of remarkable.”

Only 30 units of the Koenigsegg Sadair's Spear will be built. All of them are already sold, needless to say. The company is keeping the price secret. For free, you can spend as much time as you want looking at the car in the photo gallery at the top of the page.
