Lincoln MKZ Hybrid Grows More Leaves

When the Ford Fusion Hybrid made tidal waves in the industry last year, a large portion of the press it generated was related to the affordable, economical sedan’s impressive gauge cluster. Combining a conventional speedometer with a pair of LCD screens, it relayed all the necessary information about engine temperatures and fuel levels, with the addition of an extensive trip computer that allowed one to exploit the fantastic dual-mode hybrid system to the fullest extent. While incredibly practical, the gauge set also included a virtual plant that flourished or died depending on your driving style, rewarding more economical drivers with more and more leaves.

In what surely is a response to the positive response generated by the Fusion Hybrid’s excellent gauge system, FoMoCo has decided to outfit the upcoming Lincoln MKZ Hybrid with a similar setup, with one minor change. While the Fusion made do with leafy greens, Lincoln’s slightly better-heeled customers will receive flowers; apple blossom flowers specifically. The state flower of Michigan, these flowers will flourish over a period of months. First appearing after 4 to 6 weeks of thrifty driving, the flowers continue to grow in size and number until they reach their zenith; at which point they will represent over $8,000 worth of fuel cost savings at current gas prices.
