2025 Mercedes-Benz EQS Gets Refreshed Fascia, More Battery Power

Mercedes-Benz has taken a rather dramatic stylistic approach to the design of its electric vehicles. The chiselled, aggressive silhouettes of gasoline-powered models have given way to rounded body shapes and more discreet details. And the brand's flagship sedan, the S-Class, was not spared when its electric counterpart, the EQS, was created.

Powerful, comfortable and opulent, it has all the personality traits of the S-Class. However, over time, admirers of this specific class revealed that it lacked design panache. Mercedes-Benz dealers in the United States even claimed that the design lacked "ambition" and that sales arguments were scarce for this sedan, whose price easily exceeds $100,000.

For 2025, the manufacturer is once again spicing up this opulent sedan with enhanced on-board and drive technologies, but also with features long appreciated by admirers of the brand.

More Benz Flavour in the Front

At the front of the EQS, designers have added two signature "Benz" elements: the Mercedes-Benz standing star emblem, and chrome horizontal grille slats. These may seem trivial, but the outgoing EQS's front end was lacking in flavour, with its flat emblem and plastic panel. These latest elements inject a little more of the brand's DNA into the sedan.

The cabin is also packed with new features, such as an optional executive interior with a front passenger seat that can be folded down to provide extra space for the occupant in the second row. The seat can be reclined by 38 degrees. Mercedes-Benz also points out that 5.08 mm more foam has been added to the rear seat backs.

A More Powerful Battery

The current 2024 EQS is armed with a 108.4 kWh battery that powers a pair of electric motors developing 355 hp in the EQS 450, 516 hp in the EQS 580 and 649 hp in the AMG EQS. Range is rated at 547 kilometres in the 450 and 580 variants. For 2025, Mercedes-Benz has increased battery power to 118 kWh.

While no performance gains are claimed, the manufacturer estimates that this upgrade could increase range by around 7%. Technical improvements have also been made to braking and regeneration.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS has gradually improved with frequent minor iterations since its introduction. Will these latest aesthetic and technical changes be enough to win over more buyers in this ultra-selective segment? Only time will tell. The vintage 2025 EQS will arrive in dealerships later this year.
