Upcoming New Porsche Taycan Model Stuns on the Nürburgring

It’s not the first time Porsche’s electric sedan puts on a show in the Green Hell that is the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany—and probably won’t be the last—but what the Taycan managed to pull off lately is certainly eye-popping.

The feat involved a pre-production car announcing the new top-of-the-line model we’re going to see pretty soon, likely to be called Taycan Turbo GT.

Porsche test driver Lars Kern lapped the mythical track in a blistering 7:07.55 minutes, or 26 seconds faster than his previous best time set with a Taycan Turbo S in August 2022. In other words, he crossed the finish line with a lead of more than 1.3 km over that car.

“Twenty-six seconds is half an eternity in motorsport. Lars’ lap time of 7:07.55 minutes on the Nordschleife is sensational, putting the Taycan in the same league as electric hypercars,” said Kevin Giek, head of the Taycan model line. “And the impressive thing about it is that over several laps, Lars clocked almost exactly the same time.”

The performance achieved by this new Taycan also eclipses the top mark set by its biggest rival, the 1,020-horsepower Tesla Model S Plaid (7:25.23 minutes), by as much as 18 seconds. As for the electric hypercars Giek alluded to, consider that Croatia’s record-setting Rimac Nevera boasts a time of 7:05.30 minutes.

The ultimate Taycan is believed to feature a tri-motor system generating around 1,000 horsepower along with a revised chassis. You can also find a large new spoiler in the rear.

An official reveal is expected to take place in mid-March, so watch this space for more details and pictures.
