Genesis Unveils 1,071-Horsepower Hypercar for Gaming

Genesis is joining the likes of Ferrari and Porsche with the release of a hypercar concept designed for the Gran Turismo video game.

The X Gran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo was unveiled this past weekend at the Gran Turismo World Series World Finals in Barcelona, Spain. It will be available to race in the game from January 2024.

If you’re familiar with the luxury brand’s “Athletic Elegance” design philosophy, this is arguably the ultimate and most emotional expression, as Genesis puts it. Look no further than the radical proportions including a super-long wheelbase, as well as the voluptuous shapes of the “anti-wedge” body, painted in a Magma orange colour that references Korean volcanoes.

“Our goal was to create a timeless design rooted in the essence of motorsport,” says John Krsteski, Genesis Senior Chief Designer. “We have an incredibly diverse global design team that are car and racing enthusiasts. The designers relished the opportunity to create a race car that featured Genesis design elements as well as technical performance attributes. It has become a catalyst of inspiration for our other programs.”

Up front, the signature Genesis Crest Grille has morphed into a wide triangle with illuminated contours that extend into the headlight clusters, recreating the brand’s Two Line theme. The air intakes underneath are a bit reminiscent of those on the G90 full-size sedan. Also, check out the large openings on each side of the hood sucking air and generating downforce. Genesis claims a drag coefficient of 0.34, which is admittedly unimpressive.

Wheel size is not specified, but their design sure catches the attention. In the rear, a relatively subtle yet perfectly integrated spoiler connects the fenders, while the gigantic, wraparound-style carbon fibre diffuser below leaves no doubt about the car’s aspirations.

The interior is purposely clean, sporty and high-tech, with a digital, pillar-to-pillar interface serving as an information centre. The main highlight is obviously the fancy steering yoke, which adds a small display in the middle. Elsewhere, quilted and padded bolsters protect the driver while racing and while exiting and entering the car during virtual pit stops.

The last item we need to talk about is the powertrain. The front mid-mounted V6 screams at 10,000 rpm while delivering a maximum output of 870 horsepower and 790 lb-ft of torque. With the help of an electric motor, those numbers increase to a whopping 1,071 horsepower and 986 lb-ft.

If the Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo concept sounds like your thing, you know what you have to do.
