Jeep’s Large SUVs Lose Their V8 Engines for 2024

Introduced two years ago, the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer have put the brand back on the map for full-size SUV shoppers, offering a remarkable combination of luxury and capability even though they rely on an old-school, gas-guzzling powertrain as standard equipment.

That’s going to change for the 2024 model year. Neither the 5.7-litre HEMI V8 nor the 6.4-litre HEMI V8 will return.

Jeep has indeed decided to move forward exclusively with the new Hurricane engine that made its debut last year. The twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder generates more power and toque while burning less fuel.

In the Wagoneer, the specs include 420 horsepower, 468 lb-ft and a combined 12.5 L/100 km. The Grand Wagoneer benefits from a high-output version that delivers 510 horsepower and 510 lb-ft, needing 14.3 L/100 km. Count a few extra tenths of a litre if you opt for a long-wheelbase Wagoneer L or Grand Wagoneer L.

While the Hurricane delivers increased performance and efficiency, Jeep recommends premium gasoline, whereas the two V8 engines could make do with regular gas. In other words, you won’t really save money at the pump. Maximum towing capacity, by the way, is still rated at 10,000 lbs.

There are no other notable changes to the 2024 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. Canadian pricing should be announced shortly.

As a result, the only Jeep models that continue to offer a HEMI V8 for 2024 are the three-row Grand Cherokee L (5.7 litres) and the fearsome Wrangler Rubicon 392 (6.4 litres).
