Acura Teases Integra Type S, Confirms 320 Horsepower

Acura today announced that the high-performance Integra Type S will be officially unveiled next month prior to IndyCar’s Long Beach Grand Prix in California, set for April 14-16.

The car will go on sale this summer, and we finally know how much power it has under the hood.

While the base Integra shares a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine with the Honda Civic Si (both models are rated at 200 horsepower), the upcoming 2024 Integra Type S gets its turbocharged 2.0-litre mill from the Civic Type R, as we reported last December following a test drive of a camouflaged prototype in Japan.

A unique, close-ratio six-speed manual gearbox controls power delivery to the front wheels—320 horsepower to be exact, which is 5 horsepower more than Honda’s mighty hatchback. Peak torque is the same at 310 lb-ft. That should definitely please enthusiasts, including those that still miss the old Integra Type R.

Acura has posted a short clip to let everyone hear the raspy sound of the triple exhaust system, which is similar to that of the Civic Type R:

Remember, the Integra Type S has a slightly larger sibling, the TLX Type S sedan, that churns out 355 horsepower and 354 lb-ft. of torque from a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6.

Acura promises incredible performance thanks to not only the 2.0-litre engine but also a set of powerful Brembo brakes as well as sharper steering. The Car Guide’s Louis-Philippe Dubé, who briefly tested the prototype in Japan, was impressed by the car’s responsive handling, minimal turbo lag and complete lack of torque steer.

Watch this space around mid-April for full coverage of the new 2024 Acura Integra Type S.
