Ontario Extends Fuel Tax Cut For an Additional Year

"At a time when inflation has reached the highest levels in over four decades, we know families are feeling the pressure from rising prices on everything from gas to groceries," Ontario Premier Doug Ford said in a statement, adding the gas tax cut extension is aimed at "providing real relief.”

According to the Ford government, this proposal to extend the gasoline tax cut for another year would save Ontario households an average of $195 over an 18-month period - or $10.83 per month - between July 1, 2022, and December 31, 2023. Last spring, Ontario passed legislation to reduce gasoline taxes by 5.7 cents per litre and fuel taxes by 5.3 cents per litre for six months, from July 1, 2022, to December 31, 2022.
