2023 Chevrolet Tahoe RST Performance Adds a Bit More Power, Style

Chevrolet didn’t just come to the 2022 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit this week to display its future electric vehicles including the Equinox EV, Silverado EV and Blazer EV.

The event also marks the debut of the 2023 Tahoe RST Performance. Steve Majoros, Chevy’s Marketing Director, presented the vehicle to journalists on media day just a couple of hours before U.S President Joe Biden was scheduled to make a visit.

This slightly sportier version of the Tahoe full-size SUV houses the familiar 6.2-litre V8 engine. Output is increased to 433 horsepower (+13) along with 467 pound-feet of torque (+7). The transmission is the same 10-speed automatic found on every other model.

In terms of performance, expect 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 5.78 seconds and a top speed of 199 km/h. In order to achieve these numbers, however, you need 93-octane premium gasoline, the company says.

The Tahoe RST Performance handles the extra power with components from the pursuit-rated Tahoe including police-spec springs, retuned dampers and police-spec chassis calibrations. There’s also a lower ride height of 10 mm in front and 20 mm in the rear.

As for the brakes, Brembo units with unique Torch Red calipers provide stopping power. The front brake discs are nearly 25 percent larger in diameter than the standard RST system. Maximum towing capacity is rated at 7,600 pounds.

Canadian pricing will be announced at a later date. Production is set to begin this fall.
