Bentley Unveils Sportier Flying Spur Speed for 2023

Bentley ceased production of the W12-powered Flying Spur in May only to come back with a new, sportier Flying Spur Speed for 2023 that features the same 12-cylinder powerplant.

This latest addition effectively completes Bentley’s Speed lineup, which also includes similar versions of the Continental GT and Bentayga. The company expects about one third of Flying Spur sales in North America to be Speed models.

The specs for the twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre W12 engine remain unchanged: 626 horsepower, 664 pound-feet of torque, 0-100 km/h acceleration in 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 333 km/h. Power is controlled by an eight-speed ZF dual-clutch transmission and then sent to all four wheels, always based on the selected drive mode.

The Flying Spur Speed boasts an advanced all-wheel drive system, electronic four-wheel steering and Bentley Dynamic Ride, which together deliver improved handling and agility both at low speeds and at higher speeds. A 48-volt system controls an electronic actuator which manages the stiffness of the anti-roll bar, changing the stiffness on demand to combat cornering forces and keep the car level.

Stopping power for the Flying Spur Speed is provided by the largest iron brakes in the world with 420mm front discs. Customers can have the brake callipers painted in Gloss Red or Gloss Black.

Other styling touches that set the new model apart include “Speed” badges, a black finish for the front grille, headlights and taillights, plus unique 22-inch wheels in various designs. Bentley’s Styling Specification (carbon fibre front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser and subtle trunklid spoiler) and Blackline Specification remain available as options.

As for the interior, there is a new unique colour arrangement and a choice of 15 leather colours instead of five to go along with the usual endless list of customization options. On the instrument panel, drivers will see new performance graphics taking inspiration from luxury watches. Meanwhile, occupants will find comfort in the 24-way adjustment for the front seats and 14-way adjustment for the rear seats, all of which include heating, ventilation, massage and two memory positions.

Canadian pricing for the 2023 Bentley Flying Spur Speed will be announced later. It’s safe to expect an increase from the outgoing Flying Spur W12, which retailed for $271,400.
