Aston Martin Valkyrie: the Strength of Collaboration

If you follow automotive news, you'll have heard of the Aston Martin Valkyrie. In case you haven't, it's a new hybrid hypercar arriving on the market sometime in 2018 or 2019. While it will bear the insignia of British carmaker Aston Martin, the Valkyrie is actually the result of close collaboration with Red Bull, Rimac, Cosworth and others.

The key to this car is its lightweight design. As you may have guessed by looking at the photos, this futuristic machine will be made entirely from carbon fibre and its frame is specially designed to minimize construction materials, considerably reducing its weight.

The car will weigh only 1030 kg (2271 lbs). Its powertrain is designed to produce over 1130 horsepower, making the Valkyrie one of the few cars to surpass the legendary 1:1 power-to-weight ratio.

To achieve this result, Aston Martin developed its naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 engine in collaboration with Cosworth. Its kinetic energy recovery system was produced by Rimac, a Croatian automaker renowned for its expertise in high-performance electric cars, while its automatic seven-speed transmission will be developed by Ricardo.

The car's ECU is engineered by Bosch, while its driver assistance systems, antilock brakes, discs and callipers will be supplied by Alcon and Surface Transform. Multimatic will produce the body and Michelin will manufacture the tires.

This unique fusion of designs by some of the world's biggest companies will be worth its weight in gold. Only 150 units will be built, and you'll have to dish out nearly $4 million Canadian for the chance to own one.
