Toyota S-FR Concept: Toyota's Nimble Sports Car Returns

If you like light and nimble sports cars, you'll be pleased by this news: small, affordable cars built for enthusiasts are on their way back. Toyota (and Subaru) launched the diminutive FR-S/BRZ a few years ago, and to answer, Mazda updated its MX-5, making it lighter than ever (plus, there have been reports that the Hiroshima automaker has a new sports car is in the works).

It seems like Toyota wants to claim Mazda's crown, though: this is the S-FR Concept, a little coupe taking inspiration from the manufacturer's '60s sport cars.

With a length of 3990 mm, a width of 1695 mm and a height of 2480 mm, the concept is roughly the same size as an MX-5. Its architecture is one of the best; en engine at the front (a 130 horsepower four-cylinder), a six-speed manual transmission, a short driveshaft, a differential and rear-wheel drive. While the power isn't exactly earth-shattering, it should be plenty, since the whole car weighs only 980 kilos.

And look at the above pictures; even though the S-FR was announced as a concept, it looks almost production-ready: the wheels are normal-sized, the interior is pretty close to what you'd see in a dealership and the car's lines looks ready to be mass-produced...

Let's hope the S-FR will be sold here.
