Volkswagen Celebrates 40 Years of the Passat

Its longevity is greater than than the legendary Volkswagen Golf by one year. This means that the Volkswagen Passat arrived on the European market way back in 1973.

Today, the car is still available in more than one hundred countries around the world, and, in its seventh generation.

In 40 years, VW has sold over 20 million copies of the Passat.

The seven generations:

-    Passat type B1 : 1973;
-    Passat type B2 : 1980;
-    Passat type B3 : 1988;
-    Passat type B4 : 1993;
-    Passat type B5 : 1996;
-    Passat type B6 : 2005;
-    Passat type B7 : 2010.

It should also be noted that the Passat CC was brought to the market in 2008 but is now called the Volkswagen CC. In 2011, Volkswagen of America opened a brand new plant to produce North American versions of the Passat in Chattanooga, TN.
