2014 Chevrolet Silverado and 2014 GMC Sierra Debut In Detroit

General Motors revealed the all-new redesigns of its flagship Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra full-size pickup trucks this morning. The 2013 Chevrolet Silverado and 2014 GMC Sierra have been re-tooled from the ground up in order to make up for lost technological ground between the pair and vehicles like the Dodge Ram and Ford F-150, which have surged ahead in the race for the dollars of utility-focused buyers.

New styling, which calls to mind a mix of classic design cues (especially the grilles) and more modern elements largely maintains the blocky look of the previous generation Silverado and Sierra. Pronounced fender flares, as well as a new hood stand out as two of the biggest changes, and both the headlights and the tail lights come across as fresh. Inside, a complete overhaul of the dashboard, gauges, and vehicle controls - plus the inclusion of the MyLink feature - adds some class to the designs.

Three new engines join the Silverado / Sierra lineup, include a 4.3-liter six-cylinder and a pair of V-8 units (5.3-liters and 6.2-liters, respectively) that are specifically aimed at the full-size truck crowd. Although their displacements might be familiar, the inclusion of direct fuel injection, variable valve timing, and cylinder deactivation (down to four cylinders on each motor) make each mill a much more viable option for pickup buyers. Horsepower and fuel efficiency details have yet to be released for any of these motors.

General Motors has also improved ride quality, added a new six-foot, six-inch cargo bed, and installed electric power steering in the two trucks. A number of new active safety features additionally make an appearance in the Silverado and Sierra, including lane departure warning and forward collision warning.
