2013 6-Series BMW Gran Coupe - Four Door Bimmer Coupe

Well, if the 5-series GT and X6 weren't enough to have you convinced that BMW has gone blind, feast your eyes on this: the upcoming 6-series Gran Coupe.

Following in the even more horrifically shaped footsteps of the Mercedes CLS, the new 6er promises to give BMW their first real contender in the apparently hotly contested "four door coupe" market. First will come a pair of models that will stretch from a lowly 640i (with a 315 horsepower turbocharged six), to a sure-to-confuse 650i (sporting the familiar twin-turbo 4.4L V8 currently found within the confines the 6-series coupe and convertible's engine bay), with a possible M-version to break cover at a later date.

Regardless of one's stance on the car's appearance, the superfluous nature of the giant 3-series can't be overstated, and moves the iconic German brand further away from their tradition of a spartan but satisfying lineup. With very few Benz CLS', Passat CCs, Porsche Panameras, and Audi A7s roaming the countryside, one can't help but wonder if this latest move is a legitimate one into a burgeoning market, or simply an effort to remain competitive within a market stuffed with paper tigers.
