Jaguar C-X16 Concept: At the low-end of its class

With the still unreleased C-X16 concept, it looks like Jaguar is preparing to launch a lower-end series of vehicles.

Ian Callum supervised the creation of this new concept which introduces his visions as for the look of the next generation of Jaguars.

Little XK

Just like its big sister the XK, this concept coupe features an all-aluminium body. For that matter, the lines of the C-X16 were inspired from the XK as well as the magnificent C-X75. However, the size of the C-X16 differs:

Jaguar XK: 4,794 mm
Jaguar C-X16 Concept: 4,445 mm

Superb passenger compartment
The two-seats are made from composite materials and carbon fiber. As for the instrument panel, it hides numerous touch-screens that come out at the push of a button.

It also features a programmable air conditioning system that automatically stops and starts depending on the temperature of the interior.

Hybrid motorization

Under the muscular clamshell bonnet is a next-generation supercharged V6 petrol engine producing 380 hp and 332 lb ft of torque.

Integrated into the eight-speed gearbox is a motor generator which draws power from a 1.6kWh battery pack mounted behind the seats for ideal 50:50 weight distribution. Charged through a brake energy regeneration system, the batteries allow the motor to provide an additional 95 hp (70 kW) and173 lb ft.

A few numbers

0-100 km/h: 4.4 seconds
80-120 km/h: 2.1 seconds
Top speed: 300 km/h
Autonomy in electric mode: 80 km
Fuel consumption: 6.9 L/100 lm
Carbon dioxide emissions: 165 g/km

Taking the company’s philosophy into account, it would not be surprising to see a convertible version joining the family.

The C-X16 will be officially unveiled on September 13th at Frankfurt International Motor Show.
