The Toyota Prius continues as the market's flagship entry-level hybrid hatchback. Phenomenal fuel mileage results from the Prius' use of a gasoline/electric drivetrain that combines a 1.8L four-cylinder engine with a pair of electric motors. Together they are good for 132 horsepower, but the Toyota hybrid is more about efficiency than performance. A surprising level of premium equipment can also be outfitted to the Prius for those willing to spend a little extra on this green machine.
