These Are the 2026 Models with the Highest Projected Residual Value

We need to say it again and again: taking into account the resale value of a vehicle at the time of purchase is vital to help determine its actual cost.

J.D. Power recently announced its 2026 Canada ALG Residual Value Awards, which are pretty much the industry standard when it comes to recognizing the vehicles that are projected to hold the highest percentage of their manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP)—after four years for mass-market vehicles and after three years for premium vehicles.

“Brands that consistently retain higher residual values have a broad vehicle line-up that appeals to many customers and with that, do not over-complicate their vehicles,” said Danny Battaglia, managing director of ALG customer success at J.D. Power. “Additionally, pricing plays a big role here. Staying competitive in the market while maintaining their reliability and emotional appeal ensures the top brands stay at the top."

Initial quality, durability and brand reputation weigh heavily in the equation. ALG also analyses used-vehicle performance, brand outlook and product competitiveness. To account for differences across trim levels, model averages are weighted based on the percentage share relative to the entire model line.

2026 Residual Value Award Winners

Similar to the past five years, the top mainstream brand in Canada for 2026 is Toyota. Seven of its models earn an ALG award for the best projected residual value—Camry, Corolla, Corolla Cross, Highlander, Sienna, Tacoma and Tundra. Incredibly, the Tundra has topped the large light-duty pickup segment since the first year of these awards in 2009.

The Subaru WRX is another dominant performer, having won an award for the 11th consecutive year.
