New 2026 Mazda CX-5’s Base Price Goes Way Up

Although it sports a familiar design and features the same standard engine as its predecessor, the new, third-generation 2026 Mazda CX-5 comes with significantly higher prices, especially in base trim. It’s scheduled to arrive at dealerships this spring.

Before we tell you exactly how much it costs, let’s go over the most important changes once more.

First, the redesigned CX-5 boasts a more premium appearance and gains approximately 11.5 cm (4.5 inches) in length, primarily thanks to a longer wheelbase, giving it a more stable stance. The door openings have been significantly enlarged, legroom and headroom is more generous (especially for rear passengers), the trunk is larger and slightly lower for easier loading, while material selection has improved yet again.

Next, the cabin is quieter and Mazda has completely transformed the human-machine interface, as we explained in a previous story. Forget most of the physical controls on the centre console and dashboard: nearly all vehicle functions now go through the new 12.9- or 15.6-inch touchscreen, depending on the trim level. This screen is powered by the Mazda Connect system, which now features Google built-in, offers smartphone-like operation and is complemented by a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.

Under the bright sheetmetal, the trusted and reliable 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine is back (187 horsepower, 186 lb-ft of torque), as is the standard six-speed automatic transmission and i-Activ all-wheel drive, but the 2.5-litre turbo engine unfortunately goes away in favour of a new hybrid system that will launch… in 2027. Handling is improved with new shock absorbers, a new wheel and tire configuration, as well as the latest version of G-Vectoring Control Plus (GVC+) that incorporates an electronic limited-slip differential.

One more thing: all 2026 CX-5 models feature a comprehensive suite of safety and driver assistance features such as Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) with Speed Limit Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, Rear Smart Brake Support and Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Pedestrian Detection, Smart Brake Support (SBS Front) and Turning-Across Path alert, Emergency Lane Keeping, Blind Spot Monitoring, Vehicle Exit Warning, Driver Attention Alert and more.

The CX-5 GT is available with an optional panoramic sunroof for an additional $2,000, as well as a Premium Package for an extra $4,500. The latter includes the panoramic sunroof and is the only way to get the 15.6-inch touchscreen. It also includes a hands-free liftgate, paddle shifters, Cruise and Traffic Support with Lane Change Support technology (which enables driver-initiated lane changes at highway speeds of 70-140 km/h), a 360-degree view monitor and several other technologies including a Driver Personalization System.

Since Mazda won’t attend any Canadian auto shows in 2026, you'll have to visit your local dealer in the spring to discover and learn more about the new CX-5—or wait for our first driving impressions in the coming weeks.
